About Món Sant Benet

A medieval monastery in the Bages

Món Sant Benet is a cultural and leisure complex in Sant Fruitós de Bages, in the Bages region, about one hour from Barcelona and about 20 minutes from Montserrat. At its centre is the Benedictine monastery of Sant Benet de Bages, a medieval monastery from the 10th century that later became the summer home of the painter Ramon Casas. The complex opened in November 2007 and also includes the four-star superior Hotel Món and three restaurants.

Weddings can be religious, in the consecrated church of the monastery, or civil, in the cellar (celler) or in the gardens of the apse. The weddings dossier also lists the Casa de l’Amo garden and the Montserrat gallery and arches as ceremony spaces. Dinner takes place in La Plaça or in the Gran Montserrat room, and the website also mentions the modern rooms of La Fàbrica. The kitchen cooks with produce from the Món Sant Benet vegetable gardens.

On the wedding night, the couple stays in the bridal suite of Hotel Món, with a welcome gift and breakfast, and guests can get special room rates, subject to availability. Two wedding planners coordinate the day. It is a good fit for couples who want a historic monastery, a hotel on site and gardens surrounded by forest. If you are travelling from abroad, our guide to planning a wedding in Barcelona covers the practical side.

For your photos

The monastery is the main reason to choose Món Sant Benet, so plan the photos around it. The gardens of the apse and the arches of the monastery give you stone, greenery and a clear sense of age, which works for a civil ceremony and for portraits. Because the church is a consecrated space, ask early what the rules are for photographers inside during a religious ceremony.

The cellar and the apse gardens give two different looks for a civil ceremony, so ask to see both at the hour of your ceremony. The website does not describe a rain plan, so ask the team how each space is adapted. The modern rooms of La Fàbrica contrast with the monastery: ask which one gets the most daylight for dinner. The gardens and the forest suit relaxed portraits, and the hotel on site works for the getting-ready photos.
