A small hotel beside the Sant Sebastià lighthouse
El Far is a nine-room hotel and restaurant just outside Llafranc, on a cliff 175 metres above the sea, next to the Sant Sebastià lighthouse. The building stands on an 18th-century inn and shares the hilltop with a 15th-century watchtower and an old dwelling next to it. The restaurant serves Mediterranean cooking, with rice dishes, fish and shellfish as its specialities.
For the ceremony, the hotel offers the small chapel attached to the main building or the courtyard inside the hotel. Its enquiry form lists civil and religious ceremonies. Guests have the aperitif on the belvedere terrace with the sea in front of them, dinner is served in the restaurant with menus made for each wedding, and the party ends under the arches of the courtyard.
This is a small place, and the website gives no guest numbers. Ask the hotel what the courtyard and the room for banquets can hold before you fix a guest list. Visits are by appointment. It suits an intimate wedding where the ceremony, the aperitif and the party happen within a few steps of each other.
For your photos
The chapel, the courtyard and the belvedere terrace are all part of the same building, so the timing is easy: ceremony, aperitif and portraits can follow each other without a car. The cliff and the lighthouse give long views of the sea, but a headland is exposed. Expect wind, and remember that an open terrace in midday sun is hard on faces. Plan the couple portraits for the last hour before sunset, and use the courtyard arches for shade when the sun is high.
The courtyard is an outdoor space, so ask what the rain plan is. The hotel lists a room for meetings and banquets. Set aside 30 to 40 minutes for portraits around the lighthouse and the old watchtower, which are right next to the hotel.
