A masia of 40 hectares near Barcelona
Mas de Sant Lleí is a masia in Vilanova del Vallès, about 15 minutes from Barcelona. The estate covers more than 40 hectares, with about 30,000 m² of gardens, centuries-old trees, an artificial lake and views over the Vallès. Its history goes back to 1129, when Roland de Sant Lleí and his family gave land to the Abbot of Sant Cugat. In 1994 it was recognised as a masia of cultural interest.
The estate has named spaces for each part of the day: the Masia Casa Alta, the gardens, the Santa Justa terrace and room, and the Sant Esteve forest and room. Civil ceremonies take place in areas made for them, and the venue has a rain plan: a sheltered space with umbrellas for the guests. Religious ceremonies are also held here, arranged directly with the priest. Banquets can be indoors, in the Santa Justa or Sant Esteve rooms, or outdoors, and the party takes place in the same banquet room, with no fixed closing time.
Each wedding has the estate to itself. The kitchen is the venue’s own, with Mediterranean food and vegan, vegetarian and allergy-friendly menus. It suits couples who want a large estate close to the city, with a wedding planner on the team and room for a big guest list.
For your photos
The estate is large and varied, so the question is which three or four places to use. The lake and the old trees in the gardens work for relaxed couple portraits, and the Sant Esteve forest gives shade and soft light at midday. Walk the estate with the coordinator before the day and choose the spots by time.
For a garden ceremony, ask which areas are in shade in the afternoon: guests sit still for a while, and sun in their faces shows in photos. Ask to see the rain-plan space with the chairs set up and check how much daylight it has. Because the party is held in the banquet room, ask early how the room is lit for dancing.
