A botanical garden above the first cove of the Costa Brava
Marimurtra is a botanical garden in Blanes, founded by the German businessman Carl Faust, who settled in Catalonia in 1897 and gave himself fully to the garden from 1924. It has almost a century of history and is classified as a Cultural Asset of National Interest. The part open to visitors covers four hectares and holds around 3,000 plant species, with views over the sea and the Costa Brava.
A wedding follows a route through the garden. Welcome drinks are served in a space with views over the Linnaeus Pavilion, and the bride walks down the Epicurus Stairway from Goethe Square. The ceremony takes place at the Linnaeus Pavilion, a romantic monument above the cove of Sa Forcanera, which the garden calls the first cove of the Costa Brava. Appetisers are served on the Lloret Square balcony above the cliffs, the banquet follows with the garden’s professional caterers, and the pond area is used for the open bar and the dancing.
In bad weather the garden installs a marquee at the Linnaeus Pavilion for the ceremony. The enquiry form offers two formats: ceremony only, or ceremony with banquet. The pavilion sits above a cove, so expect wind, and fix veils and arrangements well. Stairs and garden paths ask for comfortable shoes and a dress that can be lifted. In summer the middle of the day is bright and contrasty on the open cliff, so if the garden lets you choose the time, a late afternoon ceremony gives softer light.
Marimurtra has its own rules for photography sessions and for drones: professional drone use needs prior authorisation from the garden’s management. Tell your photographer early and ask the events team what applies in your case. Allow time to walk between the spaces, because the route crosses the whole garden.
